My summer school experience: David Treviño

Publié le August 8, 2017, Mis à jour le September 8, 2017

David Treviño is studying International Business at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He participated in our 2017 Summer School programme and told us about his experience.

Why did you decide to participate in this programme?

I have always wanted to go abroad for one or two months. I saw the leaflets for short-term programmes in my university and the one from Strasbourg really caught my attention. Moreover, EM Strasbourg is a highly ranked business school and the programme was very interesting. It convinced me to take this opportunity.

What were your expectations?

I had high expectations: I wanted to get to know the French culture and experience it. I wanted to get the atmosphere of a European capital. But also to get to know people from abroad and discover how a company operates. Actually, the whole experience exceeded my expectations.

What did you learn from this experience?
This experience opened my mind about today’s world. Through the courses, we have learned that, in order to do business with any country, you first have to understand and respect its culture. I arrived in a country with a different organisation and I learnt to be flexible and to adapt to the environment.

What did you like most in the programme?
First, I really enjoyed the city and its atmosphere: we could feel we were in a historical place. Strasbourg is where Europe was made! Secondly, this programme was an opportunity for me to create new friendships and to begin developing a network. Thirdly, the courses about European Integration and Business in Europe were very interesting and helped me to understand what is European culture and how to do business in Europe. Lastly, I was positively impressed by the organisation of the whole programme.

What are your future projects?
I will first focus on completing my studies next year. Following my graduation, I plan to look for a job in an international company. I am now convinced that I would like to work abroad.
